Buying New or Used Class A Motorhomes

Class A Motorhomes are the big brothers of the motorhome world. From 26 feet upwards, Class A Motorhomes are typically built on commercial truck chassis and have the driving compartment and living quarters built over the top of this chassis.

While Class A Motorhomes are the king of the road, they do come with some disadvantages. Typical widths are 8 to 9 feet wide and they can top 12 feet in height. The size of Class A Motorhomes can make them extremely difficult to manoever on tight roads and where camping areas are little more inaccessible.

Cost of ownership issues also come into play with Class A Motorhomes, with the need for a king-sized wallet. Fuel, repairs and insurance are all going to be high. But what you get for this money is the undoubted luxury of the Class A Motorhome.

Whether you buy a Class A Motorhome new or used, be sure it fits your requirements. Areas to consider are the layout of the motorhome, what storage is available, whether the doors are convenient and how well awnings and slide outs function. You may also want to consider braking systems, hook-ups for electricity, water and sewage, and engine systems.
